Lessons in Election Technologies from Nigeria

Ahead of a series of elections in 2023, Nigeria’s electoral authority introduced the new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which uses facial recognition and fingerprinting to authenticate voters. In theory it was a big step towards electoral integrity – but on election day, almost nothing went as planned. Daniel Stefanov reports on what went wrong, and what lessons we can take away from it.
