EDITORIAL POLICY

This magazine provides people working in politics and the industry of Democracy Technologies with in-depth information about new developments and technologies in the field of digital participation and deliberation, electronic voting, and other digital tools that improve political organisations. It is published by the Innovation in Politics Institute, a Company based on a private initiative operating internationally and above party lines, located in Vienna.

The contents of our pages have been created with the utmost care. However, we cannot guarantee the contents’ accuracy, completeness or topicality. According to statutory provisions (§ 3 ECG), we are furthermore responsible for our own content on these web pages.

On our social media channels, we seek to give you an inside look at our work, the projects and programmes we’re developing, and our commitment to improving politics, strengthening democracy and fostering social cohesion in Europe and beyond.

We want to hear from you and encourage comments, questions, and suggestions. We believe that a healthy democracy thrives on lively and respectful discourse. That is why we ask you to read the following ground rules for how we moderate content and comments that appear on our channels:

  • Keep your comments respectful and appropriate to the conversation.
  • Off-topic posts or posts containing false information, unauthorized and/or unsolicited advertising, spam, hyperlinks or content protected by copyright, trademark or other rights will be removed.
  • Do not post any content or comments that may be inappropriate, misleading, disruptive, harassing or defamatory.

We reserve the right to remove any comments or posts that violate our guidelines and that, in our sole discretion, we consider

  • abusive, defamatory or inappropriate
  • fraudulent, objectionable or misleading
  • disruptive or off-topic
  • in violation of any intellectual property or any rights of others
  • otherwise offensive

We also reserve the right to block any repeat offenders from our communities.

INFORMATION ACCORDING TO GDPR ART. 26 

Your data will be processed in the form of a “Joint Controllership” by The Innovation in Politics Institute GmbH, the Innovation in Politics Germany GmbH and the ECoD gemeinnützige GmbH. The Innovation in Politics GmbH is mainly responsible for this. 

We also use service providers, for example, to send you newsletters or postal mailings, to process your donations or to spread our messages in social media. For this purpose, we transmit the necessary data to the respective service providers, who are not third parties for us. In accordance with the applicable legal provisions, we have taken precautions to ensure that all our service providers handle the data used with appropriate care and comply with all legal provisions. This is also contractually defined for us.

The Innovation in Politics Institute GmbH, the Innovation in Politics Germany GmbH and the ECoD gemeinnützige GmbH jointly operate data processing systems and commission data order processors. This decision of central, joint processing by means of a jointly operated contact database was made because in this way a better organisational implementation of requests for information, changes or deletion is achieved; taking into account the original first contact instance and across the organisational structure.

The main responsibility, both organisationally and legally, is borne by The Innovation in Politics Institute GmbH, whereby the individual tasks, responsibilities and duties are clearly distributed.

Privacy

  1. General
    1. The website https://democracy-technologies.org (hereinafter “website”) is operated by The Innovation in Politics Institute GmbH, Ungargasse 59-61, 1030 Vienna, as a service provider (hereinafter referred to as “service provider”). The media owner and publisher of the website is the service provider.
    2. Controller for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Austrian data protection law is the service provider:

    3. You have the right at any time to receive information about the personal data and to ask these to be corrected or deleted. For information, correction or deletion requests please contact us at the given contact information. If you wish to object to the collection, processing or use of your data by the service provider in accordance with this Privacy Policy as a whole or for individual measures, you can also send your objection by e-mail, fax or letter to the aforementioned contact details.
    4. We take data protection and privacy issues very seriously and comply with the applicable Austrian and European data protection regulations. You as the user of the website agree to the data processing in the sense of this declaration.
  2. Stored Data
    The service provider automatically stores and processes the following personal information when you visit our websites:
    1. Serverlogs
      The IP address of the requesting computer, together with the date, the time, the request, which file is requested (name and URL), which amount of data is transmitted to you, a message, if the request was successful, recognition data of the used browser and the operating system used, as well as the website from which the access was made (should be accessed via a link) are automatically stored. The server logs are stored to check system security, to technically administer the website and to optimise the offer. These data will be leaked to law enforcement authorities in the event of a hacking attack. A further passing on to third parties does not take place. The server logs are stored for a maximum of 3 months.

    3. Furthermore, the service provider does not automatically store and use data from users.
    4. Social Plugins (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn)
      The website uses so-called “social plugins”. Currently these are the plugins of the services Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Through these plugins, data, including personal information, may be sent to the US and Ireland service providers and may be used by them. These companies can be contacted as follows:

    5. Data that the user enters himself on the website
      If a user enters their name, e-mail address, subject and/or other data on our websites, we will receive specified data by e-mail. The e-mail address of the recipient is stored exclusively for the purpose of contacting or answering any queries, as well as for the subscription to our newsletter. Further processing of this information or forwarding the e-mail address to third parties does not take place.   3. Security of your information
    The Service Provider protects users’ personal information from unauthorised access, use, or disclosure. The service provider keeps your personal information stored on the server in a controlled secure environment in which unauthorised access and disclosure is prevented.
  4. Right of objection
    Each user of the website has the right to refuse the storage of his personal data. The user and his data will be deleted in this case, unless there is a contractual or legal obligation to store the data.
  5. Data Processing
    The service provider undertakes to secure the data against unauthorised access in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG). The service provider saves and uses the data entered and transmitted by the user exclusively to the extent mentioned here. With deletion of the user all personal data of the user are deleted.
